Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is hopeful to play some part against Wolves this weekend.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is hopeful that he can follow up his substitute appearance against Brighton last night with a Premier League comeback against Wolves.

The 31-year-old played the final 15 minutes of their 2-1 Carling Cup victory over the Championship side after missing the last six months with a groin injury.

"It's nice to come through the first test and now I'll train tomorrow and hopefully I'll be selected in the first 18 against Wolves and get some game time," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"If we were two or three up at half time, I might have got a few more minutes but it wasn't about me, it was about progressing to the next round of the cup and getting that Tottenham performance out of our systems.

"I think we've done that tonight."

Craig Bellamy scored his first goal since returning to Liverpool, while Dirk Kuty was also on target.
