Brad Jones: 'Staying at Liverpool hinders Australia future'

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones admits that he has hindered his international future with Australia by remaining at Anfield.

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones believes that he might have played more games for Australia had he opted to leave Anfield.

Jones has been an understudy to Pepe Reina since he arrived at the club in 2010, and the former Middlesbrough stopper has admitted that it hasn't helped his international future.

The 31-year-old told PA: "I have kind of been in and out recently but there is not a lot I can do really, it is up to the manager to pick me.

"The manager (Holger Osieck) wants people who are playing fairly regularly, which is obviously going to be difficult for me here.

"I have probably played more games than I thought I might have this year but just the way it has worked out it is going to be difficult. But on the other side for me it is a tough one because I would probably rather play 15 games for Liverpool than 30 for someone else."

Jones has made just three appearances for Australia since making his debut in 2007.
