Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sets a new Premier League winning record in the club's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set a new Premier League record after his side came from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James Park.

Klopp had won all previous 10 of his Premier League meetings with Newcastle boss Eddie Howe prior to Sunday's fixture.

However, that impressive record looked set to end when Anthony Gordon gave the Magpies a 25th-minute lead, before Virgil van Dijk was given his marching orders.

Despite being a player light, the Reds staged a remarkable turnaround thanks to Darwin Nunez's match-winning display from the bench.

The substitute pulled his side level in the 81st minute, before slotting home a stoppage-time winner to snatch all three points.

As a result of the impressive victory, Klopp has now 11 consecutive top-flight games against Howe, setting a new Premier League record for the longest-winning run by a manager against an opposing head coach.

Klopp's first league game against Howe took place in April 2016 when Liverpool claimed a 2-1 win over the 45-year-old's Bournemouth side.

In total, Klopp has faced Howe in 15 competitive matches as Liverpool boss, recording 13 wins, one draw and one defeat.

The only time that Klopp has finished on the losing side against Howe was in December 2016 when Bournemouth ran out 4-3 winners in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the run of 11 successive top-flight victories began with a 4-0 away victory over the Cherries in December 2018.

During the 11-game winning run, Liverpool have scored 29 goals against Howe's teams, while they have only conceded on four occasions.

After maintaining their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, Liverpool finish the weekend in fourth place with seven points to their name.

Their final fixture before the international break will take place on September 3 when they welcome Aston Villa to Anfield.
