Jurgen Klopp calls for calm after Southampton draw

Jurgen Klopp tells Liverpool fans not to expect a fairytale start after his side picks up their third draw in eight days.

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down the significance of conceding a late equaliser against Southampton and called for calm from expectant fans.

The German coach looked set for his first win as Reds boss when Christian Benteke's header gave his side the lead at Anfield, but Sadio Mane's goal ensured that the Saints left Merseyside with a point.

However, Klopp has warned that fans should not expect a fairytale start to his time in charge of the club.

He is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Of course this moment is not the best moment in the week because we wasted a lot of energy. Southampton haven't lost away from home so we had to work hard. You score the goal and you want to win, but it didn't happen tonight.

"Football is not a fairytale. Sometimes we write stories like this but it doesn't happen. You see these guys can play football, are technically strong and physically strong but you saw how big the disappointment after Southampton was.

"It's only a goal, only a game of football! It's like it's the last thing in your life and we have to calm this down."

Liverpool have now drawn eight of their last nine games.
