Jurgen Klopp ready to welcome Rafael Benitez with open arms

Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool supporters are "very welcome" to greet former manager Rafael Benitez when he returns to Anfield with Newcastle United on Saturday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has encouraged supporters to give Rafael Benitez a warm welcome on his Anfield return this weekend.

The Spaniard lifted the Champions League trophy during his six-year spell on Merseyside to secure his place in Reds folklore.

Having experienced an emotional reunion with one of his own former clubs in recent weeks, Klopp is more than happy for home fans to greet their ex-boss with a strong applause when Benitez's Newcastle United side visit on Saturday afternoon.

"I really like Rafa, we have met a few times," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "From my point of view, if someone wants to celebrate Rafa Benitez in memory of Istanbul or whatever - he is one of the most successful managers at Liverpool - they are very welcome.

"I don't care about that. Be louder than you have ever been, that is absolutely okay. That is how I would say hello to a good old friend, so no-one has to ignore this wonderful moment because I am here now. Do what you feel and if it is very good, show it."

Newcastle, who have not won at Anfield in the last 22 years, find themselves two points adrift of safety in the Premier League.
