Klopp: 'We are gutted with Ings injury'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits that everyone associated with the club is "gutted" after Danny Ings suffered another serious knee injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Danny Ings to recover from his second serious knee injury in the space of 13 months.

The Merseyside giants have revealed that Ings will miss the next seven to nine months after damaging knee cartilage in the EFL Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur last week.

It comes just over a year after the striker suffered an ACL injury in his other knee, and Klopp has admitted that everyone associated with the Reds is "gutted" after the latest setback for the former Burnley forward.

The 49-year-old told the club's official website: "To say we are gutted would be an understatement; he is such a great boy and has worked so hard that he deserves better luck than this.

"It is typical of Danny's personality, on and off the pitch, that he picked up this injury to his knee when courageously trying to win the ball back for his team by making a tackle.

"But it is this same personality that means he will come back as good and as strong from this latest setback as he has done in the past."

Ings has been restricted to just 11 appearances since moving to Liverpool in June 2015.
