Report: Liverpool prepare to select Joe Gomez away at Stoke City

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will reportedly start Joe Gomez away at Stoke City on Sunday.

Young Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will be handed his debut against Stoke City on Sunday, according to reports.

The 18-year-old was bought from Charlton Athletic earlier this summer and has been heavily involved in the Reds' pre-season preparations, starting ahead of Alberto Moreno in several matches.

The Telegraph claims that Brendan Rodgers has been impressed by the teenager and will allow him to start away at Stoke on the opening day of the new season.

The paper reports that Liverpool planned to loan him out this year, but Rodgers has seen enough in training to believe that he merits first-team football at the club.

Gomez made 24 appearances for Charlton last season.
