Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that he does not regret turning down the chance to manage Liverpool last year.
The Spaniard was approached by the Reds in May 2012, but chose to stay with Wigan Athletic before Brendan Rodgers took charge at Anfield.
Despite rejecting the opportunity to join Liverpool, Martinez is happy with his decision to lead local rivals Everton.
"Things in life happen for a reason and it was well-documented that summer," he told the Toffees' official website.
"It was a time of trying to find out what was next from my point of view and Wigan Athletic at that time. Everything ended up that it wasn't the right time or the right move.
"I always believe everything in football and life happens for a reason and I am extremely proud and honoured to be manager of Everton."
Everton welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
