James Milner hails "big victory" for Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder James Milner suggests that his side still had "another gear" if needed during their 4-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton at Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has said that his side did not even hit top gear during their 4-0 thrashing of 10-man Everton in the Merseyside derby this evening.

Goals from Divock Origi, Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho gave the hosts a comprehensive victory at Anfield to lift them up to seventh in the Premier League table.

Milner added two more assists to his tally for the season by setting up the opening couple of goals, and he was pleased to have given the fans bragging rights in the city.

"Every derby is a big game for everyone at the club, to give the fans the bragging rights. It was a big victory," he told Sky Sports News.

"We created chances and kept pushing forwards but we knew that we had another gear.

"It's always been a quiet strength of mine to get assists and it's something that I work on."

Liverpool have now gone 11 league games without defeat to Everton - their best unbeaten run in the fixture since 1979-84.
