Premier League 'to reject Liverpool request to replay Tottenham Hotspur game'

The Premier League will reportedly reject any request from Liverpool to replay their controversial fixture with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League will reportedly not consider replaying the fixture between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

On Saturday evening, when the score was goalless and Liverpool had already been reduced to 10 men, the visitors scored a legitimate goal through Luis Diaz.

Although the on-field assistant flagged for offside, VAR should have intervened and awarded a goal, but a breakdown in communication led to what the PGMOL has since described as a "significant human error".

Darren England and Dan Cook failed to spot that an offside had been given on-field, saying "check complete" when believing that that a goal had been awarded.

Audio footage, upon Liverpool's initial request, has since been revealed, highlighting the conversations that were held prior to and after the incident.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was able to react to the ongoing controversy, insisting that listening to what transpired had not impacted on his opinion from the weekend.

However, Klopp claimed that the "unprecedented" incident warranted that the match be replayed, Spurs having been able to benefit and win the game.

Spurs took the lead shortly after the Diaz disallowed goal and although Liverpool equalised before half time, the Merseyside giants were later reduced to nine men and conceded a last-gasp winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite everything that occurred and has since come to light, Football Insider claims that there is no chance of a replay taking place.

There had been no suggestion that the Premier League could take such a move with there being no precedent having been set in the past.

One notable occurrence when a replay could have ordered was after the Premier League fixture between Aston Villa and Sheffield United in 2020, goalline technology failing to detect that the visitors had scored a legitimate goal in the first half.

The defeat for Liverpool was their first of the season, Klopp's side now sitting in fourth position in the standings and two points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Spurs were able to move a point ahead of their last opponents to occupy second spot, as well as establishing a two-point advantage over fifth place.
