Brendan Rodgers impressed by English players

Brendan Rodgers reserves praise for a quintet of Liverpool's English players ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised a number of the English players for their form for the club this season.

Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge were both complimented for their displays, while Rodgers was also eager to urge England manager Roy Hodgson to take a closer look at three other members of the squad.

"Look at young Jon Flanagan and the level he is playing at. The quality he is playing at, especially in big games," Rodgers told reporters. "Steven Gerrard – everyone knows Steven's qualities but I think it would be good for Roy to see him in that central pivot that we play now.

"Jordan Henderson? Everyone has seen his progress; his maturity and his leadership qualities. He has been immense.

"Then Raheem Sterling; he's been absolutely outstanding. Incredible. For a kid of that age, to be playing at the level he is at. You look at Daniel Sturridge's transformation from being a Chelsea reserve player to being what I would consider the No 9 for England for the World Cup."

Rodgers takes his team to Craven Cottage on Wednesday night to play Fulham.
