Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he was surprised at comments from Swansea City defender Ashley Williams that criticised Reds striker Luis Suarez.
In his new book, My Premier League Diary, the Wales captain labels the Uruguayan as the player he despises most in the division, having come up against him twice last season.
Rodgers, who was the Swans boss in both those fixtures, admits that he is shocked by the comments of his former player.
"My experience of working with Ash is that he's a responsible, mature player," Rodgers told The Telegraph.
"He's an international captain. When I saw those comments I was very surprised by them.
"He certainly wouldn't have meant it the way it came out. He's a good lad. Maybe it was something he didn't mean to get out there."
