Brendan Rodgers is adamant that Liverpool's season can't "peter out" due to their inability to win a trophy before the end of the campaign.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that his players must finish the campaign strongly in order to thank the club's supporters.

The Merseyside outfit will finish the season without a trophy and are unlikely to clinch a place in the top four of the Premier League table due to their nine-point trail behind Tottenham Hotspur.

Following the Reds' 3-1 defeat to Southampton last weekend, Rodgers has claimed that his players will respond.

"It's very important that this season doesn't peter out," said Rogders during a press conference. "It can't do. Supporters are going to pay good money, home and away, to come and watch the football club.

"This is a club where there is institutional pride. Of course, we always want to be challenging for trophies but if that's not the case, you need to represent the shirt and the city.

"Every game is vital. We're playing for professional pride. We're at a stage in the season where we don't have a trophy to play for but we still have to fight."

The Reds will take on Aston Villa on Easter Sunday.
