Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel insists that he will continue to fight for his place in the team.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has insisted that he will battle to recover his regular starting spot in the Reds' lineup.

An injury layoff and Jamie Carragher's form has kept the Slovakian out of manager Brendan Rodgers's starting XI, despite beginning the campaign as one of the first names on the teamsheet.

"This is what happens in football and this time it was my turn," the club's official website quotes Skrtel as saying.

"I have to respect it and wait for my chance. And I hope my chance will come before the end of the season. Those who know me know that I will fight for my place in the team."

Due to Skrtel's regular spot on the bench, reports have circulated claiming that the centre-back may be on his way out of Anfield in the summer.
