Martin Skrtel believes that Liverpool can take positives from their performances against the top four but understands that the Reds' points total is not good enough.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has insisted that the Reds' season was not good enough but believes that Kenny Dalglish's side "deserved" a higher position that eighth in the table.

The Merseyside outfit recorded a total of 52 points this season, which is the club's lowest ever score in the Premier League.

"The games against teams from the bottom half of the table were not too good," Skrtel told the club's official website. "If were thinking about positives, they have to be performances against teams in the top four.

"I think we can build on it and if we can repeat the performances we gave against the teams in the top four and score more goals than we did this season, it can be good.

"Especially in the league, everybody knows it wasn't a great season because we finished in eighth position and that's not good. I think we deserved to finish higher than eighth position, but there were too many games in which we didn't get three points - and there were too many games in which we didn't get what we deserved."

There has been speculation over the future of the Slovakian centre-back after the player's agent claimed that the 27-year-old is due to have talks with the club.
