Daniel Sturridge: 'Simon Mignolet deserves credit for Stoke City win'

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet deserves the credit for their 1-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge believes that credit for their 1-0 win against Stoke City should go to goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Sturridge's first-half strike was enough to give the Reds the win, but the England forward said that Mignolet deserves the praise after the Belgian kept out an 88th-minute penalty from Jonathan Walters and the rebound from Kenwyne Jones.

"I want to credit the goalkeeper as well for such a great save; that's what won us the game, it wasn't my goal," Sturridge told the club's official website.

"It's great to be part of a winning team, that's the most important thing. I'm not crediting myself for the win today, I'm crediting Simon Mignolet for the save.

"It shows that we've got strength in depth now and we can rely on him. The way he introduced himself to the crowd is testament to the person he is."

Mignolet arrived in the summer from Sunderland for £9m and is the Reds' most expensive goalkeeper of all time.
