Liverpool skipper Steve Gerrard is absent for today's match at Anfield but Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has been deemed fit enough to start.

Steven Gerrard has failed to recover from a hamstring injury in time for Liverpool's early afternoon match with Arsenal at Anfield.

The captain's place in the starting lineup has gone to Jay Spearing, while veteran defender Jamie Carragher replaces the injured Daniel Agger.

Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie has been passed fit and will lead the line for the Gunners.

Theo Walcott and Yossi Benayoun will offer the support to the Dutchman from a wide midfield role.
