Hugo Lloris: Denying Liverpool title would be "cruel"

Hugo Lloris wants the Premier League season to be played out to its conclusion to avoid the "cruel" scenario of Liverpool being denied a first title in 30 years.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has admitted that it would be "cruel" if the coronavirus pandemic prevents Liverpool from winning the Premier League title.

The Reds had built up a seemingly unassailable 25-point lead at the top of the table prior to English football being brought to an indefinite halt in March.

Liverpool require just two more victories to get over the line for a first top-flight triumph in 30 years, but it remains to be seen if the season will play out to its conclusion.

However, Spurs keeper Lloris is hopeful that a solution can be found for play to continue at some point, telling L'Equipe: "We are in a situation where everyone wants to finish and have the verdict of the field.

"It would be terrible if everything ended like that nine days before the end of the Premier League. It would also be cruel for Liverpool with the lead they have... They are almost champions.

"As with everyone, there would be a taste of unfinished business. In addition, we are entering the most exciting period, the most beautiful moment of the season. Nobody wants it to end like this."

Tottenham are eighth in the Premier League, four points adrift of Manchester United in fifth.
