The agent of Alberto Aquilani suggests that the Italian midfielder could stay with Liverpool beyond the summer.

Alberto Aquilani's representative has hinted that his client could still have a future with Liverpool.

The Italian midfielder has spent the last two seasons back in his homeland on loan with Juventus and AC Milan after failing to settle on Merseyside.

He had been expected to complete a permanent transfer back to Serie A this summer, with Napoli said to be keen on the 27-year-old.

However, agent Franco Zavaglia has revealed that his client could stay with Liverpool if new manager Brendan Rodgers is suitably impressed during pre-season training.

"Alberto will go to Liverpool, then decide. Aquilani to Napoli? I honestly do not think this is viable," Zavaglia told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"Despite his good experience with AC Milan, my client will take part in pre-season training with Liverpool, as they want to look at him closely before deciding his future."

Aquilani cost the Reds a reported £20m when he joined from Roma in 2009.
