Jose Enrique released by Liverpool

Liverpool release defender Jose Enrique from his contract before the end of the season in order to allow him to find a new club.

Liverpool have released full-back Jose Enrique from his contract despite still having three games remaining this season.

The 30-year-old was expected to leave the club when his current deal expires this summer having made just three appearances all season, all of which came in the FA Cup.

However, he has instead been released early in order to allow him to plan a move to his next club having seen first-team chances severely limited in recent seasons.

The Spaniard arrived at Anfield from Newcastle United for £5m in 2011, but fell out of favour under Brendan Rodgers and has failed to force his way into Jurgen Klopp's plans.

Enrique leaves the club having made 98 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.
