Liverpool close in on Portuguese youngster

Liverpool are nearing the signing of Joao Carlos from Sporting Lisbon, according to reports in Portugal.

The Reds, who are said to have tracked the 19-year-old for some time, are thought to have had a £1m bid accepted by the Portuguese club.

Despite training with the senior squad, Carlos has yet to make an appearance for Sporting.

Carlos has been likened to former Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Deco.
