Brendan Rodgers dodges speculation Liverpool could sign new goalkeeper

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers plays down speculation that the club could sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has distanced himself from rumours suggesting that the club will buy a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Simon Mignolet's long-term future as number one looked bleak earlier in the season when he was dropped following a poor run of form.

However, since coming back into the side due to an injury suffered by Brad Jones, the Belgium international has moved to the top of the Premier League's 'Golden Glove' table with 14 clean sheets.

According to the Liverpool Echo, when asked if the Reds will sign a new shot-stopper this summer, Rodgers said: "[Mignolet] is the keeper now so there's nothing to speculate on that, it's what's in the now. He's done very well.

"It's never easy for players when you come to Liverpool, with such huge expectancy. The levels that you're judged on are very high. I've been delighted with Simon since he's come back into the team, he's shown wonderful ability, a wonderful assurance."

Liverpool are fifth in the table, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with a game in hand.
