Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he would like Glen Johnson to sign a new contract at the club.
Johnson's current deal expires at the end of next season but discussions between the England international and Liverpool over an extension have not yet started.
However, Rodgers has not ruled out the possibility of the defender committing his future to the club over the next few months.
"Glen is a player we want to keep," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.
"In terms of his contract, I am sure that is something that will be discussed between now and the end of the season.
"I'm sure it's something the owners will take up when the time is right. At this moment in time I am only really concentrating on the football aspect."
Johnson has been out of action for a month due to a number of injuries but is expected to return on Sunday against Swansea City.
