Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hints at new deal for Luis Suarez

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hints that the club could offer striker Luis Suarez a new deal by the end of the season.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested that the club will hold talks with striker Luis Suarez regarding a new contract.

The Uruguayan tried to orchestrate a move away from Anfield during the summer, but the Merseyside outfit stood firm by rejecting two bids from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Claims were made that there was a 'gentleman's agreement' that would allow the prolific forward to leave the club if a Champions League outfit made a bid, but Rodgers has reiterated that nothing of the sort exists.

"There never was [a 'gentleman's agreement'] before, and there never was this summer," Sky Sports News quotes Rodgers as saying. "The contract was what it was.

"We want him to stay and, with his contract running for two-and-a-half years, I am sure there will be something between now and the end of the season to keep him here.

"The most important thing is that the player is happy. I didn't sit in on the conversations last summer but, as I understand it, there is no agreement of any kind. I think all parties are fairly comfortable at the moment. We made our feelings known in the summer and it is where it is."

Real Madrid have been linked with a January bid for the former Ajax star, but the player himself has stated that he will remain at the club until the end of the season.
