Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: 'Luis Suarez transfer saga will not drag out'

Brendan Rodgers suggests that uncertainty over Luis Suarez's future will not drag on throughout the summer transfer window.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested that the future of striker Luis Suarez will be decided before too long.

The Uruguay international has been open about his desire to leave the club, with Real Madrid expected to be interested in the prolific forward, as well as Arsenal, who are said to have had a £30m bid rejected.

"I don't want to set a deadline or put a date on it but this is not something that will run too long," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo. "We are totally in control of the situation. It is one where we don't have to sell. He has got three years left on his contract.

"We are prepared to get some players in and spend money without having to sell Luis Suarez. The reality is that we have had one offer. There can be as much speculation as you like, but there has been nothing beyond that."

If Suarez remains at Liverpool, the striker will miss the first six games of the Premier League season due to a 10-match ban that was issued last term for biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
