Brendan Rodgers hails Steven Gerrard

Brendan Rodgers hails Steven Gerrard after his recent performances helped England to qualify for the World Cup.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has praised his captain Steven Gerrard after the midfielder's recent exploits for England.

Gerrard skippered England to two crucial wins as they secured World Cup qualification, scoring in the second game against Poland.

Rodgers suggested that people forget how good Gerrard is due to his leadership qualities.

"It's remarkable really," Rodgers told reporters.

"What gets lost with Steven sometimes is that people talk about him as this great captain and great leader, and what people forget is that he's still a world class player. He's got big talent.

"He scored what you would probably say is a typical Gerrard goal on Tuesday - breaking forward with power and pace. He's probably the best player I've ever worked with in terms of tempo. The quality he can play with when the tempo is really high, is incredible."

Gerrard returns to club action this weekend as Liverpool take on Newcastle United.
