Lorient edge past Valenciennes

Vincent Aboubakar's goal gives Lorient a 1-0 victory over Valenciennes in Ligue 1.

Vincent Aboubakar scored the only goal of the game as Lorient picked up a 1-0 win over Valenciennes in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The hosts made the better start when Aboubakar broke down the wing and squared a low cross into the path of Raphael Guerreiro, but the latter somehow put his effort over the bar.

Lorient took the lead just 14 minutes into the match when Aboubakar beat the offside flag before rounding goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau and firing his effort into the back of the net from inside the box.

The visitors day got worse when they were reduced to 10 men five minutes from time as Rudy Mater was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

Aboubakar had the chance to put the game to bed in stoppage time after rounding the keeper once more, but this time he blazed his shot over the crossbar.
