Saturday's Championship predictions including Luton Town vs. Sheffield United

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Championship fixtures, including Luton Town vs. Sheffield United.

Cardiff vs. Bristol City (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Bristol City will be targeting back-to-back wins when they travel to the Welsh capital for Saturday's Severnside derby against Cardiff City.

The Robins are sitting just outside the playoffs in seventh place, while the Bluebirds are languishing in 20th position in the Championship table.

We say: Cardiff City 2-1 Bristol City

Cardiff may have lost back-to-back league games on the road, but crucially, they will have home advantage in their favour for Saturday's derby clash, and after winning their last two home matches, we think the hosts will do enough to clinch all three points against Bristol City, especially as they have won three of their last four head-to-head meetings.

Oxford Utd vs. Portsmouth (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Portsmouth will look to record back-to-back league victories when they travel to the Kassam Stadium for Saturday's lunchtime kickoff against Oxford United.

Meanwhile, the U's will be looking to return to winning ways after drawing three and losing one of their last four Championship matches.

We say: Oxford United 1-1 Portsmouth

Oxford have seen three of their last four matches finish all square, while they have also drawn four of their previous five meetings with Portsmouth, and with all that in mind, we think the two sides could share the spoils in Saturday's clash at the Kassam Stadium.

Preston vs. Burnley (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Looking to extend their run of second-tier shutouts to a staggering 11 matches, Burnley will make the short trip down the M65 to face Lancashire rivals Preston North End in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Clarets eased past the attentions of relegation-threatened Hull City earlier in the week, whilst the Lilywhites recorded a surprise success at playoff-chasing Norwich City.

We say: Preston North End 0-1 Burnley

After grinding out a success at Norwich on Tuesday, Preston face one of the hardest tasks in the Championship as Burnley travel across Lancashire this weekend.

The Clarets are likely to be solid in defence once again, meaning that one goal is set to be the difference between one and three points for the visitors.

Blackburn vs. Plymouth (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Managerless Blackburn Rovers will continue their Championship playoff bid when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to Ewood Park on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the relegation-threatened visitors will be looking to continue their fine run of form after winning each of their last three matches.

We say: Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Plymouth Argyle

While Plymouth may have won their last three competitive matches at Home Park, we do not expect them to end their long wait for a Championship away win on Saturday, but we do think they may do enough to take a point off Blackburn, especially as they have drawn their last two away league games.

Hull City vs. Norwich (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Hull City and Norwich City came up short in their respective midweek Championship contests, and redemption will therefore be on the menu for both teams in Saturday's clash at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers' bite was non-existent in a 2-0 loss to Burnley on Wednesday evening, one day after the Canaries' playoff hopes suffered another blow in a 1-0 reverse at home to Preston North End.

We say: Hull City 0-1 Norwich City

Unlike October's statement win for Norwich, Saturday's battle does not have the look of an engrossing, goal-laden affair, and it may be just the one moment of magic that separates the two ex-Premier League sides.

With the likes of top scorer Sainz and Josh Sargent linking up in the final third, though, the Canaries have our vote to produce that one dash of inspiration needed to boost their playoff chances at the expense of the hosts' survival hopes.

Luton vs. Sheff Utd (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aiming to avoid unthinkable back-to-back relegations from the glamour of the Premier League to the depths of League One, Luton Town will welcome promotion-chasing Sheffield United to Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon in the Championship.

The Hatters are yet to experience a new manager bounce following the departure of Rob Edwards earlier in the campaign as they stare third-tier football in the face, whilst the Blades are on course for an immediate return to the promised land.

We say: Luton Town 0-1 Sheffield United

Following an unsuccessful jaunt up to Sunderland on Wednesday night, Luton face another daunting assignment as Premier League-bound Sheffield United arrive in Bedfordshire this weekend.

Bloomfield has failed to revive the Hatters' hopes of survival so far, with the Blades likely to take advantage of their struggling hosts at Kenilworth Road.

Middlesbrough vs. Watford (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Middlesbrough and Watford will both be desperate to get their playoff bids back on track when they face off in Saturday's clash at the Riverside Stadium.

The hosts have lost each of their last three Championship matches, while the Hornets have taken just one point from their previous five games.

We say: Middlesbrough 2-2 Watford

Middlesbrough and Watford will both be low on confidence after finding wins hard to come by in recent times, and with that in mind we can envisage the two sides playing out a score draw in Saturday's clash at the Riverside.

Millwall vs. West Brom (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Striving to bounce back from a sobering night in Devon on Wednesday, Millwall will play host to playoff hopefuls West Bromwich Albion at The Den on Saturday afternoon in the Championship.

The Lions suffered their heaviest defeat of the term at the hands of Plymouth Argyle earlier in the week, whilst the Baggies endured a difficult evening at home against Blackburn Rovers in the Black Country.

We say: Millwall 1-1 West Bromwich Albion

After a sobering evening in Plymouth, Millwall are likely to go back to basics as they seek a positive result against West Brom on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies will be boosted by Ajayi in defence for the battle at The Den, and we feel that the visitors should be good enough for a point in the capital.

Sheff Weds vs. Coventry (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Separated by just one point in pursuit of top-six spots in the Championship table, Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City will do battle in an important contest on Saturday.

Having both picked up midweek victories, the hosts trail the playoff spots by just two points in eighth place, while their visitors have climbed to 10th spot thanks to an upturn in form.

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Coventry City

We anticipate a tight contest on Saturday with both sides heading into the game with confidence and the need for an important win in their playoff pursuit.

The visitors head to Hillsborough as one of the division's form sides, but Sheffield Wednesday have the quality to at least take a share of the points in South Yorkshire.

Stoke vs. Swansea (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Manager of Stoke City Mark Robins, on October 19, 2024© Imago

Two Championship teams keen to move away from the relegation picture square off at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Stoke City play host to Swansea City.

Neither side could be separated in the reverse fixture held in South Wales just over four months ago when they played out a goalless stalemate.

We say: Stoke City 1-1 Swansea City

Both Stoke and Swansea are determined to return to winning ways this weekend and put together a positive run of form in the coming weeks. However, there is little to separate these two teams and the spoils could be shared once again in another closely-fought encounter.
