Half-Time Report: Luton Town holding Stoke City at break

Luton Town frustrate Stoke City in the first half of the sides' League Cup second-round clash at Kenilworth Road.

Stoke City have been unable to find a way through against League Two Luton Town in the first half of the League Cup second-round clash at Kenilworth Road.

Both teams came into the match in poor form, with Luton's shock victory over Championship side Bristol City in the first round the only win recorded by either side so far this season.

Marko Arnautovic had the first opening of the match when he darted through the Hatters defence but the Austrian could not capitalise, firing his shot straight at Luton goalkeeper Elliot Justham.

Phil Bardsley fired high over the crossbar as Stoke began to expose the home side's defence, but the League Two side created a chance of their own when Scott Griffiths's effort from range had to be tipped over by Potters debutant Shay Given.

Luton thought that they should have had a penalty when Stephen O'Donnell tangled with Arnautovic inside the Stoke box, but the appeals were waved away and two minutes later Jonathan Walters stung Justham's palms with a rasping effort.

Bojan, playing for the first time since being ruled out with a knee injury in January, scuffed wide as Mark Hughes's side looked to find a breakthrough.

Luton's defence continued to frustrate the Premier League side though, and the teams were still scoreless at the sound of the half-time whistle.
