Lyon book Coupe de la Ligue semi-final spot

Lyon defeat Marseille 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Lyon have progressed into the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 2-1 victory over Marseille at Stade de Gerland.

The home side went ahead in the 24th minute when Steve Mandanda spilled Clement Grenier's free kick into the path of Yoann Gourcuff, who rammed home from close range.

Jose Anigo was left raging on the sidelines when Saber Khelifa dispossessed Samuel Umtiti on the edge of the box before being bundled over by Anthony Lopes.

Instead of awarding a penalty, the referee brought play back for what he deemed to be a foul on Umtiti.

Bafetimbi Gomis put Les Gones within touching distance of the next round from the edge of the box in the 74th minute.

However, Les Phoceens were given late hope when Jimmy Briand handled inside the box, which allowed Andre-Pierre Gignac to claw one back.

Mathieu Valbuena then went close to levelling in dramatic fashion, only to be denied by a save from Lopes.
