Lyon fall to Villarreal defeat at Emirates Cup

A Bruno Soriano penalty and Leo Baptistao's second-half strike against Lyon ensure that Villarreal pick up their second victory of the Emirates Cup.

Marcelino's men almost found a way through with less than 10 minutes on the clock, but Gerard Moreno was unable to find the net with his headed attempt.

Moments after Lyon had struck the post, Bruno Soriano edged Villarreal ahead when converting from the penalty spot after Dylan Mboumbouni clumsily brought down an opponent inside the box.

Les Gones again came within the width of the bar of finding the net through Bakary Kone's header, with the missed chance proving costly as Leo Baptistao was able to wrap things up just short of the hour.

Lyon, who shipped six against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, remain bottom of the group after their final match.
