Lyon frustrated by Bastia

Lyon remain third in Ligue 1 after a frustrating goalless draw with Bastia.

Lyon missed the chance to reduce the gap to Ligue 1 leaders Paris-Saint Germain after they were held to a goalless draw away to Bastia.

The best chances of a quiet first half fell to the Corsicans when Guillaume Gillet's left-footed strike was blocked by Lyon's backline.

Moments later, Hervin Ongenda's free kick from the edge of the box was only inches away from creeping inside Anthony Lopes's left-hand post.

Lyon's only chance of note in the opening hour also came from a free kick, but Samuel Umtiti failed to guide his effort on target.

Indeed, the visitors' first shot on target did not arrive until 11 minutes from time when Alexandre Lacazette's through ball found Mohamed Yattara, but his subsequent shot was saved by Alphonse Areola and Bastia were able to hold on for a point.

The result leaves Lyon one point behind Marseille in second, with Marcelo Bielsa's side having played one game less.
