Real Mallorca have kept their survival hopes alive in La Liga and moved off the bottom of the table courtesy of a 1-0 win over Real Betis this evening.
The hosts almost took the lead in the 13th minute when Javi Marquez's header was parried by Adrian. Tomer Hemed reacted quickest to the loose ball, but his strike from close range came back off the crossbar.
Hemed did break the deadlock less than 10 minutes later, however. Adrian once again parried an initial shot back into the area, and Hemed made no mistake with his follow-up this time to make it 1-0.
Mallorca should have doubled their lead just after the hour mark, and again the chance fell to Hemed. The Israeli striker had the goal at his mercy but miscued from six yards out when he should have scored.
Betis began to put pressure on Mallorca late on, but the relegation candidates held on to record a valuable win that leaves them 19th in the table, three points from safety with two games left, while Betis remain seventh.
