Half-Time Report: Captain Markus Rosenberg's strike puts Malmo in front against Shakhtar Donetsk

Age Hareide's Malmo take a one-goal advantage into half time against Shakhtar Donetsk thanks to an 18th-minute strike from captain Markus Rosenberg.

Age Hareide's Malmo have taken a one-goal lead into the break at home to Shakhtar Donestk thanks to Markus Rosenberg's first Group A strike.

Malmo took the lead after 18 minutes through captain Rosenberg, who steered a low Pa Konate cross into the box past the outstretched Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov.

A poor clearance from the Ukrainian side presented Oscar Lewicki with the chance to double Malmo's lead, but his shot flashed over the crossbar.

Donetsk almost levelled when Marlos found Oleksandr Gladkiy who fed Fred, but the Brazilian midfielder's effort went just outside Johan Wiland's post.

Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna then saw his free kick fly the wrong side of the upright.

Malmo had two chances to double their tally before the half-time whistle blew, the first a Jo Inge Berget volley which was saved at close range by Pyatov.

Rosenberg then missed the chance to record a brace as he headed wide from Vladimir Rodic's late corner.
