Manchester City are planning to appeal the red card that Vincent Kompany received this afternoon, according to Roberto Mancini.

Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Manchester City will appeal the red card that was handed to Vincent Kompany during today's Manchester derby.

The City skipper was given his marching orders by referee Chris Foy in the 12th minute for a challenge on Manchester United winger Nani.

"We will appeal," Mancini told reporters. "I am sure we will win."

Mancini's side went on to lose the FA Cup tie 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.
