Roberto Martinez insists that an FA Cup win would only be satisfying if Wigan Athletic remain in the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has said that winning the FA Cup would be a "proud" day for the club, but only if they also manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Martinez said that Wigan would achieve their best ever season if the team stay in the league and win silverware.

"Getting to the FA Cup final is a real achievement and now we are there we want to win it because otherwise it will be an unhappy experience," Martinez told Yahoo! Sport.

"I would say that I feel most proud, though, when the team and I finish a season having achieved all our aims. At the moment, however, that is still all up in the air for us.

"What we do know is that we have the opportunity to create our proudest season ever by winning the FA Cup, but we are also fighting relegation so it's paramount that we achieve our aim in the league to make it a fulfilling season."

Wigan face Manchester City in the final on Saturday afternoon.
