Half-Time Report: Swansea City, Manchester City level at break

Wilfried Bony cancels out an early strike from Fernandinho to see Swansea City head into half time level with Manchester City at the Liberty Stadium.

Wilfried Bony had an early chance for the home side, unleashing a powerful strike from 25 yards out just five minutes into the tie, but it drifted inches wide.

The visitors then broke the deadlock after the Swans failed to clear a Samir Nasri corner, allowing Fernandinho to drill the ball in from the edge of the box.

Swansea responded well as they looked for a quick equaliser, Jonjo Shelvey firing an effort over the crossbar before Jonathan de Guzman sent his shot straight into the hands of Joe Hart.

The hosts, who had the better of the chances late in the half, appealed for a penalty shortly before the half-time whistle when Vincent Kompany appeared to block an Ashley Williams strike with his hand, but referee Phil Dowd gave the Man City defender the benefit of the doubt.

Michael Laudrup's side continued to threaten, and their pressure paid off in stoppage time when Bony got the better of Kompany to head in from a De Guzman cross.
