Manchester City star David Silva to miss West Bromwich Albion visit

Manchester City will be without playmaker David Silva for Saturday's Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion as he rests due to a persistent ankle problem.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that David Silva will sit out Saturday's visit of West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League with a niggling ankle issue.

The Spaniard is likely to return for the second leg of City's Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain – finely poised at 2-2 – as Pellegrini decides against risking him this weekend.

Silva is missing, but Yaya Toure could return having missed the Citizens' last two matches, while Vincent Kompany and Raheem Sterling are still absent.

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots has expressed his concern over when Kompany will return with Euro 2016 just two months away, but Pellegrini is ignoring his remarks.

"I am just thinking about Vincent improving," the Chilean told reporters. "He's not working with the squad at the moment, so we will see next week how many more days he needs.

"I'm always positive. I am not concerned about Belgium's opinion."

City go into this weekend's match fourth and just a point above neighbours Manchester United in the race for a Champions League finish.
