Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that David Silva is currently in hospital undergoing checks following a nasty collision with Cheikhou Kouyate this afternoon.
The Spaniard was caught by Kouyate's outstretched arm midway through the second half of the Citizens' 2-0 victory over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium, leading to a hefty stoppage in play.
Silva was eventually stretchered off the field to a round of applause from all four sections of the ground, and Pellegrini provided an update on the midfielder's condition shortly after full time.
"At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek," the City boss is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Asked if he felt Kouyate deserved to be sent off, the 61-year-old added: "The referee was very near. He decides what happens and gave a yellow card. I hope that it was an accidental collision."
Today's victory leaves the Premier League champions one point behind Manchester United in fourth place.
