Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that Vincent Kompany did not pick up an injury during Wednesday's League Cup clash with Manchester United, but was withdrawn due to tiredness.
The Man City captain started the Manchester derby at Old Trafford, which the Red Devils won 1-0 courtesy of a second-half effort from Juan Mata.
The Belgian international did not emerge for the second period, however, and Guardiola has said that the centre-back informed his manager that "he could not play anymore".
"He told me he could not play anymore," Guardiola told Sky Sports News after the match.
Kompany, who has struggled with a succession of muscular injuries over the last couple of seasons, played 78 minutes of Man City's 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Premier League at the weekend.
