Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola plays down the hype surrounding his team following their winning start to the season.

Pep Guardiola has played down the hype surrounding his Manchester City side following their winning start to the season.

The North-West outfit have won all of their eight games in all competitions so far, scoring 25 goals in total.

Despite City being strong favourites for the Premier League crown, Guardiola has claimed that it is "too early" to judge his team's ability.

"I'm happy that people are being positive," Guardiola told reporters. "I didn't expect us to play at that level. That is because I am new, so next year that is not going to happen. I am new and my [fellow managers] are not new.

"The way we play is a little different, but it's only September 20. It's too early to make a conclusion as to our level of performance during the year.

"I know what is going on here. I know it's going to happen that we're not going to win at some point. Maybe we need that as soon as possible, one defeat. I'm joking there. But you understand what I mean, to make things calm down."

City will switch focus to the EFL Cup tomorrow when they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
