Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho: 'I wanted to join Porto'

Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho reveals that he wanted to join Porto instead of the Premier League club, but his father convinced him to change his mind.

Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that he initially wanted to join Porto before signing a new deal with the former Premier League champions.

The 19-year-old striker, who has scored two goals in all competitions so far this season, impressed in City's 5-1 rout over Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

The youngster, who was scouted by City after he scored six goals and made seven assists for Nigeria in the World Under-17 Championship two years ago, has revealed that he had his eye on Porto, but was convinced by his father to join City.

"I was close to signing for FC Porto, where I really wanted to go, but my agent said City was a much better prospect and my father told me I should join City because I would have a much better future here," The Express quotes Iheanacho as saying. "So that's what I did.

"Nobody knows what will happen but because City are such a big team with so many fantastic players I didn't believe I'd have a future here, but my father did and he gave me to confidence I needed. Now I'm happy I took his advice."

City are currently at the top of the league table, level on points with Arsenal after 10 games.
