Jesus Navas eyeing Spain recall

Manchester City winger Jesus Navas says that he is desperate to earn a recall to the Spain set-up, having not represented the European champions since the 2014 World Cup.

Manchester City attacker Jesus Navas has insisted that he will not give up on earning a recall to the Spain squad despite an 18-month absence.

The 29-year-old made his international debut in 2009 and has racked up 34 appearances for the European champions.

His last La Roja cap came at the 2014 World Cup, though, and he has not been included in Vicente del Bosque's selection since, despite being a regular for Man City.

Navas, however, has refused to give up on his dream of returning to the set-up.

"I've always tried to earn a place in the national team. It's something that I'm working hard for, but only if I do well for City," he told Marca.

"I've always been proud to play for Spain, and it's an honour to be called by your country. If I get another opportunity then it'd be amazing, as it is for any player.

"I always try to do my best, and my coaches, teammates and fans make it easier for me. I think they're one of the reasons why I'm playing well right now."

Spain will face England in an international friendly on Friday.
