Kevin De Bruyne: 'I did not expect to play so much'

Kevin De Bruyne admits that he was surprised to be starting so many games for Manchester City since his big-money move this summer.

Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that he did not expect to find a place in the Manchester City starting lineup so quickly after his big-money move from Wolfsburg this summer.

The Belgian attacking midfielder cost City approximately £54m, having led the assists total in the Bundesliga last season while scoring seven goals to help Wolfsburg secure second place.

However, despite his impressive form last year, the 23-year-old is 'surprised' by the number of times he has been put in Manuel Pellegrini's starting XI since his move.

"I didn't expect to play that much but we had a couple of injuries so I came into the side really early," De Bruyne told Sky Sports News.

"Everything went well and physically I'm fine with no injuries. It's all going well for me. I knew already what level Manchester City was at.

"I played against a few of the players before and I've played with a few of them with the international team. Obviously, I knew certain players better than others but the team is really good."

De Bruyne has featured 17 times for City in all competitions this season and has scored nine goals since his move.
