Vincent Kompany explains own goal

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany attempts to explain how he scored a comical own goal during his side's 4-2 win at Fulham on Saturday.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has explained how he managed to score a comical own goal during his side's win at Fulham on Saturday.

The defender sliced the ball over the head of goalkeeper Joe Hart to make it 2-2 at Craven Cottage, but late goals from Jesus Navas and James Milner earned City a 4-2 victory in the Premier League clash.

Kompany had earlier found the net at the other end of the pitch to give the visitors a commanding 2-0 lead in West London.

"There were lots of things that influenced this own goal. I'd just had a second elbow in my face, I have a cut above my eyebrow and I had blood in my eyes," the Belgian international told Sporting Telenet.

"The heavy wind also played its part, but for goals like this you don't have to look for excuses.

"That's life as a defender. It's important that you easily forget goals like that. The reaction of the team was good."

City continue their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day when they take on Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
