Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany insists that clean sheets are not important at this early stage of the season.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has insisted that he is not worried by defensive lapses in the early stages of the season.

City made it four competitive matches without a clean sheet as they beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1 on Saturday evening.

"If we'd scored more goals in the first half it wouldn't have been the game it was," Kompany told ESPN. "We did well to create chances but unfortunately didn't put them away.

"Credit to QPR, they worked really hard but what we can take out of it is that we have a lot of strength of character.

"Clean sheets don't matter yet, we have always proven to be solid at difficult times. Come December, January, Feburary, thats when the defence will need to show how strong they are."

Roberto Mancini's side needed late goals from Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez to get the victory over Rangers after Bobby Zamora had equalised in the second half.
