Ederson becomes the third-fastest goalkeeper in Premier League history to reach 100 clean sheets after helping Manchester City win 2-0 at home against Newcastle United.

Ederson has become the third-fastest goalkeeper in Premier League history to reach 100 clean sheets after helping Manchester City win 2-0 at home against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has been an influential member of Pep Guardiola's side since joining in the summer of 2017, with his steadfast presence between the sticks aiding the Citizens in winning four Premier League titles over the last five seasons.

The cool-headed Brazilian has won the Premier League Golden Glove award in each of the last three campaign, sharing the 2021-22 award with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and he remains in the running this year's accolade after keeping his ninth clean sheet of the season against Newcastle.

Ederson will have a fight on his hands to win a record-breaking fourth-successive Golden Glove, though, with Newcastle's Nick Pope currently leading the way with 12 clean sheets so far this season.

Nevertheless, Ederson has now become the 17th goalkeeper in Premier League history to register 100 clean sheets, and the first from South America to reach the milestone.

City's No.31 has also become third-fastest goalkeeper reach a century of shutouts in the competition, doing so in just 208 matches.

Ederson has notched up 100 clean sheets in fewer games than a host of legendary Premier League goalkeepers including Peter Schmeichel, David Seaman and Edwin Van der Sar.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech (180 games) and former Liverpool shot-stopper Pepe Reina (198) are the only two goalkeeper to reach the milestone in fewer matches than the Brazilian.

Ederson will be required to more than double his current tally if he wishes to surpass the Premier League's all-time clean sheet record set by Cech (202).

The former Benfica man is one of only three current top-flight goalkeepers along with Manchester United's David de Gea and Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris who have kept at least 100 clean sheets and who are in with a chance of climbing the overall rankings.

Ederson's latest shutout in the victory over Newcastle was accompanied by goals either side of half time from Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, and Guardiola's side have now moved to within two points of leaders Arsenal, who face Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Ederson will look to keep his 10th clean sheet of the season when Man City travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in their next top-flight match in a week's time.
