Roberto Martines says that his current Wigan Athletic team is the best that he has had at his disposal.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has said that he is "disappointed" with tonight's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Mario Balotelli and James Milner struck late at the DW Stadium to see the Citizens keep pace with rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.

However, the Spanish coach said that he takes no solace from the fact that they lost to the reigning champions.

"As a club we should not be happy to be beaten by the champions," Martinez told BBC Sport. "We were outstanding off the ball, but on it, we were not as good as we can be.

"It is the best team I have had since I have been here and our squad is strong. We were at our weakest in terms of quantity of players today, but the players that came in showed their quality.

"We know what we can produce, and if you are edging a game for 60 minutes, you are disappointed to lose no matter the opposition."

The Latics are 15th in the table.
