Pep Guardiola "happy" with Raheem Sterling form

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praises Raheem Sterling's early-season form after he scored twice in his side's 3-1 victory over West Ham United.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that he is "happy" with Raheem Sterling's form at the start of the new season.

The England international was heavily criticised last season for both club and country, failing to live up to his £50m price tag before putting in a string of underwhelming displays at Euro 2016.

However, 21-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign and scored twice in City's 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.

"I did nothing, I try to do the best for all the players. Raz has scored two goals, that's good but for me the games before were more brilliant," Guardiola told reporters.

"The first half he didn't win. He scored but he didn't win as many balls as he has in previous games. Of course we are so pleased about his spirit. He's so dynamic, so aggressive with and without the ball - I'm so happy he's playing good.

"I just tried to help him, to tell him he'll received the ball more often if he stays in his position. After that, it's his talent. When City bought this played with an important amount of money it's because of his talent. I'm happy for him, for us and for the national team."

Sterling managed just six Premier League goals in 31 appearances last season, but already has two in three league outings this term.
