Report: Martin Demichelis out for six weeks

New Manchester City signing Martin Demichelis reportedly faces six weeks on the sidelines after damaging his knee ligaments in training.

New Manchester City signing Martin Demichelis is reportedly out for at least six weeks after injuring his knee.

The 32-year-old arrived from Atletico Madrid on Sunday as defensive cover due to City's mounting injury list.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Demichelis damaged his ligaments in a practice match at City's training ground yesterday and will face a spell on the sidelines himself.

With captain Vincent Kompany out until the end of the month, Manuel Pellegrini has only two recognised centre-backs to choose from - Matija Nastasic and Joleon Lescott.

Micah Richards is thought to be close to a return, while youngster Dedryck Boyata could also be called upon.

Scans revealed that while Demichelis will not require surgery, the injury will keep him out until the middle of next month at least.
